» MW2: Infinity Ward Kaos!

Mar 04, 2010 - 6:00 PM - by Hitman
G4TV posted an article which is very bizarre in the gaming community. Men showing up unannounced as security, missing developers. Take a look:
UPDATE: Security Appears At Infinity Ward, Studio Heads Missing, Activision Investigating "Insubordination"

UPDATE 12:02 AM: Double Fine's Tim Schafer, who had his own troubles with Activision over the release of Brutal Legend, recently commented on Twitter about what's happening between Infinity Ward and Activision.
"Getting mad at Activision for this kind of thing is like getting mad at an ape for throwing feces," said Schafer. "It's just how the beast communicates."

UPDATE 11:20 PM: It turns out Activision may have showed their hand in this matter earlier today.

In an SEC filing made this morning, Activision cited a human resources investigation into "breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward."

Based on the information we currently have, at least one of those employees may have included Infinity Ward CTO Jason West. It's possible Vince Zampella is the other unmentioned employee.

"This matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation," read the filing. "At present, the Company does not expect this matter to have a material impact on the Company."

UPDATE 11:11 PM: Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling has vaguely addressed the situation:

Quote from: Robert Bowling

I should also say, while I appreciate all the calls, tweets, messages and hearing my ringtone a lot," said Bowling on his Twitter account, "they're in vain - as I have no info.

UPDATE 10:07 PM: More developments on the situation at Infinity Ward have come to light.

A screenshot surfaced from Infinity Ward CTO Jason West's Facebook page at Kotaku with the status update:

Quote

Jason West is drinking. Also, unemployed.

I can confirm from a source close to West that the update did actually come from West's account.

West also updated his Linkedin profile which appears to reflect a change in employment:

President/Game Director/CCO/CTO Infinity Ward
January 2001 – March 2010 (9 years 3 months)

While this doesn't yet provide much insight into what actually happened at Infinity Ward, it confirms there are changes afoot at the Call of Duty developer. As soon as I know more, you'll know more.

Something's happening at Infinity Ward right now.

A source close to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 developer just informed me that a "bunch of bouncer-types" just showed up outside of the Infinity Ward offices unannounced. When approached by employees, the non-uniformed "bouncers" were unwilling to disclose why they were there.
"Everyone is on edge," said my source.

Infinity Ward studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West reportedly met with Activision this morning and have not been seen by Infinity Ward staff members since. My source did not delve into specifics, but described the relationship between Infinity Ward and Activision lately as "tense."

The mood around the Infinity Ward offices is currently described as "freaked out" and "confused."

"We just wanna make our games," said my source.
I've contacted Activision for comment on the ongoing situation at Infinity Ward. Stay tuned.

» Call of Duty Maps Update

Jan 17, 2010 - 7:38 PM - by Hitman
Well the vBulletin updates and over all updates went well. Everything updated with no errors. Which is good for me and the site, that's less work for me to do.

I just finished the new style, however still have stuff to fix and add. I figured this is better at the stage I have than the white site. Things will change, colors will change, tell me what you think etc.

As you can see various things are not aligned correctly, images are to bright, icons are over bright. This will all be fixed.

I still got a ton of work as far as tweaks and such! So, please bare with what is presented. The site logo will be changed to something better. Kind of rushed things. So much different with vBulletin 4 that it's going to take time before its all just set.

For now, enjoy what it is, and remember things are going to change! Tell me what you think so far!

» Call of Duty Maps Seeks Help

Jan 08, 2010 - 5:34 PM - by Hitman
With the way the economy is and with me not having a job due to the economy. We are forced to ask for donations. All money donated is put right back into the site.

All we ask is at least to make the web hosting each month ($12.00) and I have spent everything I have up until now which will keep the site afloat for another month. We are asking in advance to help any way you can. Whether it be a donation or clicking the ads.

We don't make much on ads, and anyone who donates will be put in a specific group to have those ads removed. You will require registering.

We really didn't want to ask for donations, but with no money to keep the site going we have to. Either way, Call of Duty Maps will not be going anywhere. Some how and some way we always make it.

You can make donations on the front page right hand side with Paypal, once we meet the $12.00 we will remove the donations button until next month.

Thanks for understanding!

» COD 7: Call of Duty: Vietnam Releasing November 2010

Jan 08, 2010 - 4:50 PM - by Hitman
Computers and Video Games has released an article that Call of Duty: Vietnam, Treyarchs new Call of Duty franchise game will be released this year around November. Take a look here:
CVG can confirm that Activision has pencilled in a November release for the seventh Call Of Duty - which will be set in the late 1960s, during the Vietnam War.

Following this week's rumours, a senior UK trade source today told us that the Treyarch-developed title is scheduled to arrive a full 12 months after last year's Modern Warfare 2.

They added that the game would be set during the Vietnam conflict - and takes particular influence from classic movies Apocalypse Now and Platoon.

"It's going to be November again - just as with World At War and Modern Warfare 2," they told CVG.

"Activision believes that it can own Christmas 2010, just as it has in the last two years.

"Development is on course - and Treyarch have been told the game must be ready to hit shelves before the gifting season."

» MW2: Infinity Ward Not Developing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Jan 08, 2010 - 4:46 PM - by Hitman
VG247 posted an article about Infinity Ward not developing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 but instead making a totally different game. Take a look here:
Infinity Ward has this far avoided the issue of its work after Modern Warfare 2, saying no decision had been made on further projects in the run up to the shooter’s launch last November.

“Right now we don’t have a clue what our next game is going to be, and we won’t know what it will be until we finish with Modern Warfare 2, which won’t be for a while,” studio frontman Rob Bowling told IGN UK last October.

MW2 DLC packs are scheduled to release this “spring” as a timed 360 exclusive.

It’s unclear where the third game will be made if IW really has gone AWOL from the series.

We were told by one dev source that a Canadian studio was handling it, but another pointed to newly-formed Sledgehammer Games, headed by ex-Visceral bosses Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey.

Sledgehammer, based in the Bay Area, is currently recruiting for a multiplayer designer with “five years experience working on current AAA multiplayer shooters for current consoles and PC.”

The identity of Sledgehammer’s first project is yet to be announced.

Activision’s only Canadian developer is Vancouver-based Radical Entertainment, the studio behind last year’s free-roaming adventure, Prototype.

Rumour surrounding the Call of Duty franchise in general is escalating. A report yesterday claimed that Treyarch is currently putting together a story-focused, Vietnam-based episode in the series for release later this year.

» MW2: Hidden Game Mode Found on XBOX 360

Jan 07, 2010 - 6:57 PM - by Hitman
MW2 Blog posted an article about a hidden game mode discovered on XBOX 360 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Take a look here:
Remember back in November when we reported that ‘hidden game modes were found lurking on the PC version of Modern Warfare 2? Well, i don't know how, but footage of the very same game mode - Global Thermonuclear War - has been spotted being played on the Xbox 360!

We have reached out to the owner of the videos for an explanation as to how they managed to enable the mysterious secret mode and will keep you updated when we receive a reply.

Does this mean that Infinity Ward put the extra modes on the disc so they can roll them out as a future playlist update, or could they be there ready to be ‘enabled’ as part of DLC? What are your thoughts?

» COD 7: Call of Duty 7 In The Works?

Jan 07, 2010 - 6:50 PM - by Hitman
Call of Duty HQ posted an article about Call of Duty 7 already in the works? Can it be true? Take a look here:
Treyarch senior animator David Kim has let slip that Call of Duty 7 is under development at the studio behind Call of Duty: World at War by listing it on his LinkedIn profile.
"I am currently on my second title as a senior animator in the games industry with Activision / Treyarch on Call Of Duty 7," reads Kim's profile, superannuation spotted.

Call of Duty 7--no doubt a working title--may be expected next year given Activision's commitment to annual releases of its major franchises, and its "leapfrog" strategy which has seen Infinity Ward and Treyarch alternate CoD entries these past few years.

Kim's Call of Duty 7 listing follows recent rumors that the sequel could be set in the Vietnam War era, based on the tunes Activision is supposedly seeking to license.

World at War senior producer Noah Heller of Treyarch stated last year, "I can't say that there won't ever be a WWII Call of Duty game again," suggesting that World War 2 might be on the shelf for now.

Obviously no platforms are known yet but the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are safe bets considering the franchise's history on the platforms and recent Activision activity.
